This report documents the pedagogical transformation of an early learning outdoor environment through a Reggio Emilia–inspired approach. It outlines how the redevelopment of the Brookview garden moved beyond physical redesign to become a catalyst for changes in teaching practice, child engagement, and community relationships. Central to the project is the conceptualisation of the environment as a “third teacher”, shaping learning through interaction, exploration, and co-construction of knowledge. The report situates the redevelopment within broader theoretical perspectives, including socio-cultural and constructivist approaches, and highlights its alignment with national frameworks such as Aistear (2024).
We would like to sincerely acknowledge the dedication, commitment, and collaborative efforts of the educators, Educational Leaders, children, and families within StartBright Brookview who contributed to the development of this report. We also wish to recognise and thank the wider StartBright community for their ongoing support, encouragement, and shared commitment to quality early learning and care.
